Diabetes Tests
Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test
The FPG blood test measures your blood glucose level at a single point in time. For the most reliable results, it is best to have this test in the morning, after you fast for at least 8 hours. Fasting means having nothing to eat or drink except sips of water.Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)
The OGTT is a more expensive test and is not as easy to give.
Hemoglobin A1c Test
A simple blood test, the A1c ("glycosylated hemoglobin") is done on a sample of blood taken from a finger-stick or from a small vial of it drawn from your arm. Not to be confused with the daily at-home monitoring that allows some people with diabetesto measure their blood sugars in the moment,
the A1c test paints a picture of your average blood sugar level for the past 3 months.
