Psoriasis - Causes,Symptoms,Treatment and how to control

Psoriasis

Causes of Psoriasis

When you have psoriasis, your immune system is overactive. This creates inflammation inside the body,

which is a cause of the symptoms you see on the skin.

More healthy cells are produced than normal. Those excess cells get pushed to the surface

of your skin too quickly. Normally, it takes about a month for your skin cells to

cycle through your body. With psoriasis, it takes days.Your body simply can’t shed

skin cells that quickly, so the cells build up on the surface of your skin.

The thick, red patches you see on your skin (called plaques) are actually a buildup of excess skin cells.

Symptoms

whitish-silver scales or plaques on the red patches

Red, raised, inflamed patches of skin

dry skin that may crack and bleed

soreness around patches

itching and burning sensations around patches

thick, pitted nails

painful, swollen joints

Psoriasis isn’t contagious. You can’t pass the skin condition from one person to another.

Touching a psoriatic lesion on another person won’t cause you to develop the condition.

Heart Bypass Surgery (CABG) : Purpose, Procedure

Heart Bypass Surgery (CABG) : Purpose, Procedure

Coronary heart disease can lead to a heart attack.

It can cause a blood clot to form and cut off blood flow.

Bypass surgery can give your ticker a big health boost.

Bypass surgery treats symptoms of coronary heart disease.

You may feel things like:

Chest pain, which is known as angina

Irregular heartbeat

Shortness of breath

Bypass surgery

A surgeon removes a blood vessel, called a graft,

from another part of your body, like your chest, leg, or arm.

He attaches one end of it to your aorta,

a large artery that comes out of your heart.

Then, he attaches the other end to an artery below the blockage.

Malaria - Causes, Symptoms and how to prevent

Malaria   Causes,Symptoms and how to prevent

Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite, transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes.

Mosquito transmission cycle

1.A mosquito becomes infected by feeding on a person who has malaria.

2.If you're the next person this mosquito bites, it can transmit malaria parasites to you.

3.The parasites then travel to your liver — where some types can lie dormant for as long as a year.

4.When the parasites mature, they leave the liver and infect your red blood cells.

This is when people typically develop malaria symptoms.

Symptoms

Moderate to severe shaking chills

High fever

Sweating

Other signs and symptoms may include:

Headache

Vomiting

Diarrhea

Reducing exposure to mosquitoes

Spraying your home.

Sleeping under a net.

Typhoid

Typhoid fever is an acute illness associated with fever caused by the Salmonella Typhi bacteria.

After the ingestion of contaminated food or water, the Salmonella bacteria invade the small intestine and enter the bloodstream temporarily.

The bacteria are carried by white blood cells in the liver, spleen, and bone marrow, where they multiply and reenter the bloodstream.

Symptoms

Headaches

Fever as high as 104 degrees Farenheit

Diarrhea

weakness

Treatment

Typhoid fever is treated with antibiotics which kill the Salmonella bacteria.

Avoiding infection

* Typhoid is spread by contact and ingestion of infected human feces.

This can happen through an infected water source or when handling food.

*Avoid eating at street food stands, and only eat food that is still hot.

*Do not have ice in drinks.

வாயுத் தொல்லை/ How gas formed in stomach?

How gas formed in stomach?

Gas is created in the human digestive system through one of two ways.

First, during regular activity, there is a certain amount of air that is swallowed -- while speaking, eating.

This collects in the stomach and is later released through burping or belching.

A small amount of this gas may make its way to the intestines, and may be released through flatulence.

The second cause of gas is the digestive mechanism. During digestion, foods are broken

down in the stomach and intestines by harmless bacteria and enzymes.

Usually, flatulence is odour-less. However, some people do produce gasses that contain sulphur – due to

the presence of certain bacteria in the large intestine -- which can cause malodor. This again is harmless.

While food is being digested, certain gasses like hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane are produced.

Basically, foods that are high in carbohydrates rather than fats or proteins tend to cause gas.

சிறுநீரகக் கற்கள்- காரணங்கள்,அறிகுறிகள்,பரிசோதனைகள்/Kidney stones - Causes and Symptoms

Kidney stones

The kidneys regulate levels of fluid, minerals, salts, and other substances in the body.

When the balance of these compounds changes, kidney stones may form.

What causes kidney stones?

Factors known to increase the risk of kidney stones include dehydration, family history, genetics, and the presence of certain medical conditions.

What are symptoms of kidney stones?

Many kidney stones are painless until they travel from the kidney, down the ureter, and into the bladder.

Depending on the size of the stone, movement of the stone through the urinary tract can cause severe pain with sudden onset.

People who have kidney stones often describe the pain as excruciating. The lower back, abdomen, and sides are frequent sites of pain and cramping.

Those who have kidney stones may see blood in their urine. Fever and chills are present when there is an infection.

How can kidney stones be prevented?

The best way to avoid kidney stones is to prevent the most common cause – dehydration. You are adequately hydrated when your urine is clear.

What is a Pacemaker

Pacemaker

A Pulse rate of a healthy heart lies between 60 to 100 beats per minute, this ensures there is enough blood flow throughout the body.A pacemaker is usually used in patients who have low pulse rate.Pacemaker ensures the heart beats are back to normal levels.
Pacemakers also can monitor and record your heart's electrical activity and heart rhythm.
Newer pacemakers can monitor your blood temperature, breathing rate, and other factors.
They also can adjust your heart rate to changes in your activity.

What is baloon anjioplasty

Angioplasty

An angioplasty is a surgical procedure to open the blood vessels that supply blood to your heart muscle.

Baloon Anjioplasty

Doctors usually perform this procedure while you are under local anesthesia.
First, they make an incision in your arm or groin.
Then they insert a catheter with a tiny inflatable balloon on the end into your artery.
Using X-ray, video, and special dyes, your doctor guides the catheter up into the blocked coronary artery.
Once it’s in position, the balloon is inflated to widen the artery.
The fatty deposits, or plaque, get pushed against the wall of the artery.
This clears the way for blood flow.

Tuesday 20 February 2018

What is an angiogram?

What is an angiogram?

An angiogram is an X-ray test that uses dye to demonstrate the arteries.
Arteries are invisible to X-ray so the only way they can be seen is by filling them with dye.
The correct name for the dye is ‘contrast’, and it is the iodine it contains that is visible on X-ray.

* In performing a coronary angiogram, a doctor inserts a small catheter
(a thin hollow tube with a diameter of 2-3 mm)
through the skin into an artery in either the groin or the arm.
* Next, a small amount of radiographic contrast (a solution containing iodine,
which is easily visualized with X-ray images) is injected into each coronary artery.
The images that are produced are called the angiogram.

What test are used to diagnose heart disease

What test are used to diagnose heart disease

ECG:
Electrocardiography is the process of recording
the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time using electrodes placed on the skin.
These electrodes detect the tiny electrical changes on the skin that arise from the heart muscle's
electrophysiologic  pattern of depolarizing and repolarizing during each heartbeat.
It is a very commonly performed cardiology test.

ECHO:
An echocardiogram, often referred to as a cardiac echo or simply an echo,
is a sonogram of the heart.Echocardiography uses standard two-dimensional, three-dimensional,
and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart.

Exercise Treadmill Test

An Exercise Stress Test is used as a means of assessing how your heart and blood vessels
respond to physical exertion. An ECG is recorded at rest whilst walking on a treadmill.
Throughout the test a Cardiac Technician and a Medical Practitioner will supervise you and look
for indications that your heart is not getting enough oxygen, signalling obstructed coronary arteries.

    * Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
    * Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

What causes heartattack?

Heart Attack

Over time, plaque can build up along the course of an artery and narrow the channel through which blood flows.
Plaque is made up of cholesterol buildup and eventually may calcify or harden, with calcium deposits.
If the artery becomes too narrow, it cannot supply enough blood to the heart muscle when it becomes stressed.
If the plaque ruptures, a small blood clot can form within the blood vessel,
acting like a dam and acutely blocking the blood flow beyond the clot.
When that part of the heart loses its blood supply completely, the muscle dies.
This is called a heart attack

First aid
* push hard and fast on the center of the victim's chest.
* tilt the victim's head back an lift the chin to open air way.

Broiler chicken : Good or Bad?

Broiler chicken : Good or Bad?

The environmental science journal Down to Earth

has highlighted the problem by analysing the antibiotic content in the chicken

meat obtained from various markets in its labs, and the results are alarming.

Typical antibiotics found in the chicken liver, muscles and kidney are the tetracyclines (such as doxycycline), fluoroquinolones (such as enrofloxacin) and aminoglycosides (such as neomycin).

Why are these dangerous?

Repeated and prolonged exposure will lead to the emergence of resistant strains of bacteria.

And these resistant strains will be passed on to the humans who consume them.

Even the un-mutated bacteria in the meat can directly unleash an assault on the microbes in our guts. And note too that the antibiotics used in poultry are the same as the ones used for humans.

First aid for nose bleeding

First aid for nose bleeding

Sit upright and lean forward.

By remaining upright, you reduce blood pressure in the veins of your nose.

This discourages further bleeding.

Sitting forward will help you avoid swallowing blood, which can irritate your stomach.

Pinch your nose.

Use your thumb and index finger to pinch your nostrils shut.

Breathe through your mouth.

Continue to pinch for 10 to 15 minutes.

Pinching sends pressure to the bleeding point on the nasal septum and often stops the flow of blood.

If the bleeding continues after 10 to 15 minutes,

repeat holding pressure for another 10 to 15 minutes.

Avoid peeking at your nose.

If the bleeding still continues, seek emergency care

Low blood sugar -- Reasons, Symptoms, how to prevent?

Hypoglycemia or Low blood sugar

Hypoglycemia occurs when blood glucose levels fall below 60mg/dL.Whilst many of us think of diabetes as being a problem of high blood sugar levels, the medication some people with diabetes

take medication that can also cause their sugar levels to go too low and this can become dangerous.

What are the causes of hypoglycemia?

Whilst medication is the main factor involved in hypoglycemia within people with diabetes,

a number of other factors can increase the risk of hypos occurring.

Factors linked to a greater risk of hypos include:

Too high a dose of medication (insulin or hypo causing tablets)

Delayed meals

Exercise

What are the symptoms of hypoglycemia?

Sweating

Fatigue

Feeling dizzy

Being pale

Feeling weak

Feeling hungry

A higher heart rate than usual

Blurred vision

Confusion

Loss of consciousness

And in extreme cases, coma

How do I treat hypoglycemia?

A mild case of hypoglycemia can be treated through eating or drinking 15-20g of fast acting carbohydrate such as glucose tablets,

sweets, sugary fizzy drinks or fruit juice.

Severe hypos can be treated with glucagon if a glucagon injection kit is available and in date.

How to control diabetes in Tamil #diabetes#diabetescure

How to control blood sugar

1. Exercise Regularly

Exercise increases insulin sensitivity and helps your muscles pick up

sugars from the blood. This can lead to reduced blood sugar levels.

2. Implement Portion Control

The more control you have over your serving sizes the better control

you will have over your blood sugar levels.

3. Control Stress Levels

Controlling stress levels through exercise or relaxation methods

such as yoga will help you control blood sugars.

4. Lose Some Weight

Keeping a healthy weight and waistline will help you maintain normal blood sugar levels

and decrease your risk of developing diabetes.

5. Follow a Balanced Diet with Complex Carbs

Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, lean protein and good sources of fat.

Foods to avoid are those rich in trans fats (also called hydrogenated fat),

processed food, and sugar.

6. Give Up Smoking

Types of Diabetes

Types of diabetes

Type 1 diabetes

A chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

Type 1 diabetes accounts for 5 to 10 out of 100 people who have diabetes. In type 1 diabetes,

the body's immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually

eliminating insulin production from the body.Without insulin, cells cannot absorb sugar,

which they need to produce energy.

Type 2 diabetes

A chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose).

Type 2 diabetes can develop at any age. It most commonly becomes apparent during adulthood.

But type 2 diabetes in children is rising. Type 2 diabetes accounts for the vast majority

of people who have diabetes-90 to 95 out of 100 people. In type 2 diabetes, the body isn't

able to use insulin the right way. This is called insulin resistance.

As type 2 diabetes gets worse, the pancreas may make less and less insulin.

This is called insulin deficiency.

Prediabetes

A condition in which blood sugar is high, but not high enough to be type 2 diabetes.

Gestational diabetes

A form of high blood sugar affecting pregnant women

Test for diabetes

Diabetes Tests

Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test

The FPG blood test measures your blood glucose level at a single point in time. For the most reliable results, it is best to have this test in the morning, after you fast for at least 8 hours. Fasting means having nothing to eat or drink except sips of water.

Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)

The OGTT is a more expensive test and is not as easy to give.

Hemoglobin A1c Test

A simple blood test, the A1c ("glycosylated hemoglobin") is done on a sample of blood taken from a finger-stick or from a small vial of it drawn from your arm. Not to be confused with the daily at-home monitoring that allows some people with diabetes

to measure their blood sugars in the moment,

the A1c test paints a picture of your average blood sugar level for the past 3 months.

Symptoms of Diabetes

What are the symptoms of diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes symptoms often appear suddenly and include:

High levels of sugar in the blood and urine

Frequent urination

Hunger

Thirst

Weight loss

Weakness

Tiredness

Mood swings

Nausea

Vomiting

Type 2 diabetes symptoms include thirst and regular need to urinate, tiredness, irritability and nausea. Skin infections, blurry vision, tingling or dry skin are also relatively common symptoms.

What is Diabetes ?

what is diabetes?

To answer that, you first need to understand the role of insulin in your body.

When you eat, your body turns food into sugars, or glucose. At that point, your pancreas is supposed to release insulin.  Insulin serves as a “key” to open your cells,

to allow the glucose to enter -- and allow you to use the glucose for energy.

But with diabetes, this system does not work. This causes sugars to build up in the blood.

Diabetes can cause serious health complications including heart disease, blindness,

kidney failure, and lower-extremity amputations.

Diabetes is becoming increasingly more common throughout the world, due to increased obesity -which can lead to metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes leading to higher incidences of type 2 diabetes.
